What is Remedial Massage?
Remedial massage is a wholistic, hands-on assessment and treatment of the connective tissues in the body, including fascia, muscles, tendons, ligaments and the lymphatic system. It is used to assist in rehabilitation of injuries, to decrease pain and to stimulate the body's own healing processes. Just like every person, every remedial massage treatment is unique to you in order to create the best possible outcome.

What to expect from a treatment?
Prior to your treatment, your therapist will discuss your health and treatment goals. During your treatment you will be covered with towels to keep you warm and protect your privacy.

A number of different remedial massage techniques will be used to stimulate new blood flow and assist with healing and relaxation to where you need it most. Kati additionally offers cupping, gua sha and kinesiology taping in her massage consults.

Meet Kati

Kati’s passion for the health industry started several years ago with her own experience growing up in Australia as an elite athlete. Being involved in the high-performance sporting world from the age of 12, she was exposed to the importance of adequate recovery for both the body and mind. After experiencing a stress fracture in her pelvis, developing severe health issues after contracting salmonella overseas competing, and riding the highs and lows of elite sport, the one thing that seemed to make a big difference was massage therapy. Fast-forward twelve years and she has completed a bachelors degree in Health Science (Musculoskeletal), a Postgraduate Certificate in Human Nutrition and worked as a Massage therapist and Myotherapist for the Adelaide Crows and Gold Coast Suns Football clubs (Australia), Olympic athletes in the South Australian Sports Institute and Australian Institute of Sport, in the ski fields of Nozawa Onsen (Japan) and even on a cruise ship in the Caribbean (USA). In addition, Kati went on to spend four years lecturing and tutoring first and second year anatomy at Endeavour College of Natural Health.

Kati is passionate about helping clients achieve their health goals and is qualified in a large range of remedial and musculoskeletal techniques. Every treatment is catered to the individual to gain the best possible outcome and results. If Kati isn't in the Recovery Room or listening to health podcasts, you'll find her surfing, running or baking (and eating) delicious cakes and desserts.

Is my information confidential? 

YES! The recovery room is a safe space. All information and communication is kept confidential and will never be shared with a third party without written consent from the client. 

How should I prepare for a massage?

A couple of things can be done to ensure you have the best experience:
Stay hydrated - We recommend water or herbal teas
Eat lightly prior to your treatment - This helps to avoid abdominal discomfort when lying on your stomach
Arrive in advance - Your time is precious! When you arrive early it ensures you will receive the whole experience of your treatment and avoid the stressful feeling of running late. Please note, late arrival may result in reduced duration of your massage.
Communicate - To ensure you get the maximum benefits of your massage please let us know if you are too hot / cold, like the music louder / softer, feel uncomfortable in a position etc.
Medication - Avoid taking any pain medication prior to your appointment as this can alter sensation.
Relax - Concentrating on your breathing can be a great way to enhance your treatment and relaxation. 

What should I wear?

Wear whatever is comfortable for you! Please know you will be asked to disrobe to your underwear, so ensure you're wearing some. At the recovery room we are accepting of all individuals - if you would not like to undress for cultural or personal reasons, please let us know in advance and we can adjust the treatment accordingly. 

What if I am running late to my appointment?

Please arrive on time for your appointment as it has been specifically arranged for you! We do however understand accidents happen. Please call or email as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you. In the scenario of missing an appointment without notification, a cancellation fee will apply.
